, the rain started pouring pretty good here. yeah, but steve's been talking about it all morning. we're not expecting huge rain amounts from this storm but the ground is saturated from the storms and some commuters and residents are not taking any chances. we talked by a lumber company in mill valley. owners and employees putting sandbags there and keeping them there because of the rain. this store was flooded past sunday. storeowners tell us after this incident over this past weekend with the recent storms that they just didn't want to take any chances. >> worried about tomorrow morning? >> hopefully, it will be not that bad. >> reporter: we did drive by the store early this morning and it looks like the sand bags are working right there right now. the rain is continuing to pour down here and hopefully the sand bags will prevent any flooding here. on a side note as we take a look at -- i think the biggest concern is the roadways. tara's been talking about it all morning. there were three accidents on the 80. if you are heading out this morning, take it easy on the roadways and slow

. 7:07. let's go to -- let's go to steve. >>> this is a colder pattern. this may last a while. 7, 10, 15 day -- 15 days. there's a pattern with stronger systems coming in. christmas week could be kind of rainy and snowy as well. i almost had to choke there for a second. i'm okay now. coming down from cape mendocino there could be some snow. we need that because the snow level was way too high. but that's changing. there's not a lot of life with the system. heard from steve bridges up in the keys, 2 inches at lake level. it will be more of a powdery. you can see some scattered showers around, nothing widespread or anything. just kind of -- there was some towards orinda, san rafael, berkeley, emeryville, san mateo, redwood city, heading over towards the hayward side. also along highway 1 towards woodside, skyline, 84. san gregoireia and then towards the santa cruz mountains. there's been some around san jose. we'll keep an eye on that. 37 santa rosa. 44 napa. these continues will continue to drop. still nom so 50s -- still some 50s. this is a very fast-moving pattern, and it can be --

known, the retirement of vice president kevin martin and the retirement of our paralegal, steve johnson. that most recently happened two weeks ago. we are definitely going to fill the void that steve has left, i hope to fill the void and fill the shoes of kevin martin. we know it's a lot to ask but i can assure you that president delanus and i will make every effort to work with the chief as we have done since being on the executive board of the poa for the last 9 years. but before i do i want to acknowledge kevin martin who has 28 years of service not just with the san francisco police department but the san francisco sheriff's department and especially acknowledge steve johnson, who joined the san francisco police department in 1971, served 30 years and since that time has worked tirelessly along with kevin for the rights of our members and he has worked with every commissioner here. he's going to be a big loss to the poa, he wanted to be here tonight, he could not make it. he is in good health and spirits but i do have letters to each one of the commissioners on behalf of steve.

:07, here's steve. >> thank you very much. beautiful sunrise over the big city here. we have some areas that are clear, probably some fog otherwise its clouding up especially to the north and some rain is trying. this is not a strong system but every system so far in a rain year -- or a wet year you go with it. in a dry year this doesn't have a chance but there will be light rain parallel to the coast. it's cold. pockets of fog. mostly cloudy. chilly to cold. for some not too bad but for others really cold out there. rain develops and if the system has enough punch snow level could be around 2500 feet. that wouldn't be until later though. 34 seems possible there. livermore and concord. 1 degrees in tahoe, sacramento 32 and even reading at 30 degrees. there's cold air to the north. you can see the lines right there -- some of that air is mostly clear. that's where some of the fog has been forming. looks like i doubt much of that is reaching the ground but it might. some of this lighter rain is starting to fill in with a lot of cloud cover. but watch how it really just kind of hangs -- ki

on this monday. let's look at what we have on interstate 880, and it's windy as steve mentioned. i agree, just by looking, there are no major problems as you dry -- drive through and traffic is backed up beyond the 880 over crossing getting into the area. we have a trash at 280 and 87 and watch for the lane to be blocked northbound 280 as you come up on 87. it is not causing a huge traffic jam but it just might. >> we have patchy fog out to the valley and maybe off in santa rosa, and the county airport. definitely a northeast breeze coming off the higher elevations, mission peek and fremont. it will be the place to be downtown oakland, that northeast wind will help some but for others it is cold, sunny and mild to warm breezy at times. in santa rosa some are saying, what topline warm, it is 39 and there is 60 in downtown oakland and at the airport. 21 miles per hour at the oakland airport. mostly sunny, mild to warm, the dry was the end starts to change monday. i don't think it will be a lot. a quarterbacker 60s on the temperatures to 70-degree the oakland and it almost helps with an offshore

happened here n her home. we had planned to end the week with one of those wonderful stories from steve hartman about a third grader in denver who is fascinated by dinosaurs. a little kid with big dreams-- just like the children who died today. steve, the father of a four-year-old, has some thoughts tonight about this tragedy. >> reporter: i haven't been able to watch the news most of today let alone prepare something to say on it so forgive me if i'm a little shaken tonight. for me it's those pictures of the kids coming out of the school in tears. those have been just doing me in. i feel empathy, of course, but i've got to be honest with you, most of what i've been feeling today is selfish. what if those were my kids? could this happen at their school? i'm comfortable confessing this because i'm guessing a lot of you have been feeling that same way, too. and if you are like me then you know there's only one place to find solace. this is my son george. this was the spaoeul he gave me when i picked him up from school today. on the way home we got stuck behind a bus and although normally

and the south bay. 85 slows at 87. 101 slows in pockets from the capital expressway. >>> let's go to steve. >> thank you, sal. we have low clouds coming in. this is on parts of the coast and moving south. it looks like it's about half of the san mateo coast. there is a ribbon of fog from the sacramento valley and san joaquin valley. our system kos not -- does not have a lot of rain but it has a lot of cold air with it. it will be moving in tomorrow. today we have low clouds, again, combination of the two. low clouds. it will be a cooler day even with sun for a while. sometime this time of year, when you get a cold front moving in. those clouds start to move in. clouds tonight and then -- it's a light rain coming in late tonight, tomorrow morning. .10, maybe .50 at the most. the snow level is coming down. this will be good news for the is sierra, shasta/lassen, they will get the snow levels. not a lot of snow out of the first one but we'll get the levels down to 4500 feet. it will turn much colder. it's already cold to the north. a lot of 30s from santa rosa, napa down to gilroy, 38. liverm

:09. let's go to steve. >>> well, rain moving through. the front is going true right -- through right now. now we have fog. it's kind of a light rain, steady rain. even picking up. this is gonna be a very, very active week. today is kind of a mild, rainy day and then we get the cold weather and cold air. thursday, all the way into christmas eve looks very wet. not as wet as what we had two, three weeks ago. but sunday could be moderate to heavy rain. we'll have to keep an eye on things. some of the 24-hour rainfall totals. willits and mendocino county, 1 point 25. 1.25. the key, though, is cloudy, windy with light rain or steady rain in the morning. sun and clouds, i think wile get a break. the system comes by. breezy, mild. but getting cooler because the cold air comes in tomorrow. i mean, it will get really cold tuesday night into wednesday. snow kind of a mix. it's 36 at truckee. 36 at the keys. 36 around sought lake tahoe. there is a rain/snow mix. higher elevations it is and the rain continues here. this front is moving through. you can see some rain in martinez, benicia, crockett, t

on the peninsula we've been watching that for you. traffic looks good on 101 and 280. let's go to steve. >>> sal, thank you. a very good morning. our system is arriving. it's arriving and falling apart. cloudy, mostly cloudy in the morning. maybe light rain. i doubt it. mostly cloudy partly cloudy this afternoon. it will stay cool. it's cold out there now. that cold air is trapped due to the cloud cover. really you can watch how this system which looked so good yesterday. we take a jet stream and split it. one going north and one going along the coast. so cloudy, mostly cloudy here in the morning. off the coast and bay light rain possible. really there is not a lot to this system. it's really arriving. much, much weaker than it looked 24 hours ago. cool high temperatures though and the lows are also cold. lots of clouds. not much rain. we'll take that right into the weekend. there are returns on radar. if you are getting anything you can tweet me. i'm showing signs of all this system. it's just really not going to do too much. if there is any available moisture up around 3,000 to 3500 feet you m
